As well as twenty years’ experience of parish ministry, David has been involved in ministerial training in a residential college, part-time training course and in four dioceses, writing and teaching courses for students for both lay and ordained ministry, and for potential ministry area leaders.

On the ‘Ministerial Formation’ page are four articles sharply critical of the educational methods by which the Church of England trains its ministers. The most recent of these, ‘Educating Ministers of Character’, has been particularly influential in the Church’s most recent thinking about ministerial training and was included in the handbook issued to those designing modules for the Church’s Common Awards curriculum.

The Christian Education page includes ‘Faith development theory: a case for paradigm change’, which critiques James Fowler’s theory of ‘faith development’.

The Ministry page includes short articles, some written for the Lichfield Diocese Local Ministry Training Scheme, around the theme of ministry. One, ‘The Gift of Rest’, encourages ministers and others to incorporate the discipline of Sabbath into their practice.
